Resin garage floor: durable, elegant, safe

A smooth, non-porous floor that does not dust, does not soak up oil and is easy to wash. For private garages we recommend a proven epoxy and polyurethane system with quartz broadcast.

Our standard for a private garage

We chose the solution that is the most popular and the safest to install. It gives a hard, sealed, non-slip surface, and its behaviour on site is well known.

  1. 1

    Epoxy primer

It penetrates the concrete, strengthens the substrate and bonds the whole system.

  2. 2

    Epoxy layer with quartz broadcast

It forms a strong, non-slip base layer and hides small irregularities.

  3. 3

    Polyurethane topcoat

It protects against abrasion, oil, salt and sunlight and gives the final colour and sheen.

Smooth epoxyA garage where the floor rarely gets wetMirror-like finish, but it can be slippery when wet and yellows in sunlight without a polyurethane topcoat.
Decorative flakesShowroom garage, hobby areaA speckled look that hides dirt. Needs a careful protective topcoat.
Epoxy paintA temporary fixA thin coating that wears quickly. We do not recommend it for a garage with car traffic.

Substrate preparation decides durability

Resin holds only as well as the substrate beneath it. That is why in a garage we start with preparation, not with applying material.

  • Diamond grinding or shot blasting so the resin has something to bond to
  • Repair of cracks and defects with repair mortar
  • Checking substrate moisture and the age of the concrete
  • Thorough dust removal before priming

How long it takes

  1. Day 1

    Grinding, repairs and dust removal.

  2. Day 2

Primer and the epoxy layer with quartz broadcast.

  3. Day 3

Removing excess quartz and the polyurethane topcoat.

Curing times depend on temperature and the system, so we give exact information about walking and parking on the floor in line with the technical data sheet of the product used. Full cure of the resin usually takes about a week.

Garage floor questions

How much does a resin garage floor cost?

The price depends on the area, the condition of the concrete, the amount of repair and the chosen system. We give it in writing after seeing the garage.

Will resin withstand hot tyres and winter salt?

The polyurethane layer resists abrasion and road salt. We choose the system to suit how the garage is used.

Can the garage have damp concrete?

Resin is applied to dry, mature concrete. If moisture is too high it has to be dealt with first, for example with proper damp-proofing.

Is the floor slippery?

Quartz broadcast gives grip even when wet. A smooth finish without broadcast is more slippery, so we do not recommend it for a garage.
